While criminal banks and credit rating agencies that have perpetuated fraud and crashed the global economy are rewarded honest players are slaughtered.

Wal-Mart’s List of Crimes Expands by Adding ‘Bribery Campaign’ in Mexico

John Galt
Activist Post

Wal-Mart has been on the march across Latin America over the last 20 years. America’s largest private employer is now also the leader in all of Latin America.

From their launch pad in Mexico, where an incredible one in five of all Wal-Mart stores now reside, they have successfully conquered Brazil Argentina, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Chile and Puerto Rico.

It is now coming to light how they might have facilitated such rapid progress in a region known for massive bureaucracy…

Taxed by the boss

Across the country more than 2,700 companies are collecting state income taxes from hundreds of thousands of workers – and are keeping the money with the states’ approval, says an eye-opening report published on Thursday.

Canada’s Economic Collapse and Social Crisis: Class War and the College Crisis, Part 5

What are the Spending Priorities of the Government?

In the debate raging over increased costs of tuition in Quebec, increased debt loads of the federal and provincial governments, the need to reduce costs – impose “fiscal austerity” – and find “solutions” to these problems, very little context is given. As students fight back against increased fees, the counter argument simply states that people must pay for their education, that governments must reduce their deficits, and therefore, cuts in spending and increases in tuition are necessary, though undesirable. But how necessary are they? Where is the government putting its money?

Destroying the Retirement Dreams of a Generation

Stocks had a rough go of it yesterday. After recouping some of the day’s early losses the DOW ended the day with a 102 point loss. One headline said it was Europe’s fault. Another said it was Wal-Mart bribery in Mexico.

Here at the Economic Prism we don’t know what the reason was…we just hope no one lost an ear over it. That does happen from time to time, you know.

Take Jerry Lee Ries of Los Angeles. On the night of April 11, Ries and another man met near Parking Structure 10 in Santa Monica to conduct a business transaction. Ries was, no doubt, clarifying the finer points of his program of debt collection when he pulled out a knife and sliced the man’s ear off.

Fear returns to the eurozone – The Independent

Europe’s economy took another dramatic lurch downwards yesterday as investors found fresh reason to doubt whether the Continent’s politicians will be capable of resolving the sovereign debt crisis that continues to plague the single currency bloc. Stock markets reacted badly to a deluge of disappointing economic data, the victory of the Socialist candidate François Hollande in the first round of the French presidential election and the collapse of the Dutch government.

Bank of America Tells Gun Manufacturer McMillan Firearms “We no Longer Want Your Business”

The 2nd Amendment is becoming more and more under attack as not only Bank of America, but also Craigslist, EBay and PayPal give thumbs down to any transactions concerning guns or Ammo. Gun owners are more and more becoming isolated from being able to purchase or manufacture guns. It’s damn close if not full blown tyranny. For people who love guns, it’s another long line of BS that they have had to put up with. It’s good to see that Mr. McMillan no longer accepts Bank of America credit cards as payment for any of his products. We all in the gun community should disassociate ourselves from this corrupt bank ASAP.

Call for Growth to Counter German Push for Austerity

With political allies weakened or ousted, Chancellor Angela Merkel’s seat at the head of the European table has become much less comfortable, as a reckoning with Germany’s insistence on lock-step austerity appears to have begun.

53 Percent Of All Young College Graduates In America Are Either Unemployed Or Underemployed

If you are in college right now, you will most likely either be unemployed or working a job that only requires a high school degree when you graduate. The truth is that the U.S. economy is not coming anywhere close to producing enough jobs for the hordes of new college graduates that are entering the workforce every year.

53 Percent Of All Young College Graduates In America Are Either Unemployed Or Underemployed

All over the United States, “middle class jobs” are being replaced by “low income jobs” and young college graduates are being hurt by this transition more than almost anyone else. Massive numbers of young college graduates are now working jobs that do not even require a high school degree. Some of the statistics about young college graduates are absolutely astounding. The following is from a recent CNBC article….

The so-called “American Dream” is dead.

So people with skills and kids, please get out of this country while you still can.

Weaponized Data: A New Front in Global Capital’s Control Grid

With the exponential growth of fiber optic and wireless networks, the mass of data which can be “mined” for “actionable intelligence,” covering everything from eavesdropping on official enemies to blanket surveillance of dissidents is now part of the landscape: no more visible to the average citizen than ornamental shrubbery surrounding a strip mall.

Commenting, Salon’s Glenn Greenwald pointed out that the “domestic NSA-led Surveillance State which Frank Church so stridently warned about has obviously come to fruition.”

“The way to avoid its grip is simply to acquiesce to the nation’s most powerful factions, to obediently remain within the permitted boundaries of political discourse and activism.”

As a person of faith, conscience, and logic, I refuse to remain silent, when I see a miscarriage of justice; when I see what could be intelligently addressed and mended; and when I see what should be done, but is not.

As readers of this site understand, I have had many peaceful, reasoned differences of opinion with the policies of both the current administration , and the previous administration.

And it is probably TORTURE for those surveilling us to read my emails or texts, because they so many times end with “much Light, Many Blessings,” or expressions of love to my husband.

I never advocate violence as a way of resolving issues, because it rarely does. And my two great heroes of the 20th century are Mahatma Gandhi, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., because both of them embraced non-violence as the ultimate expressions of their cause, when they could have just as easily not done that.

So I will continue to advocate for peace and justice as long as I am breathing; and I plan to be breathing for a very, very long time.

Occupy Every Port for the 4th of July

If the Occupy Movement wants to cut through the crap and bring the elitist 1% to task, the solution is simple. Start spreading the word now. Occupy every US port on the 4th of July and refuse to leave until the theft is stopped and the arrests of the thieves have begun. This is where our power lies and we can accomplish this task, solely as individuals. We do not have to construct a list of demands or join with any socialist movement. Simply occupying the ports will say all we have to say to these unspeakable bastards.

On the Social Security 2012 Report to Congress

The Social Security Trust Fund (SSTF) 2012 report to Congress is now out (link). It’s 242 pages and contains a great deal of information. I have reviewed a number of sections in the report that I consider to be key measures of SS’s health. Not one of those variables showed any improvement.

US home prices drop for 6th straight month

Home prices dropped in February in most major U.S. cities for a sixth straight month, a sign that modest sales gains haven’t been enough to boost prices.

The Standard & Poor’s/Case-Shiller home-price index shows that prices dropped in February from January in 16 of the 20 cities it tracks.

The steepest declines were in Atlanta, Chicago and Cleveland. Prices rose in Phoenix, San Diego and Miami. They were unchanged in Dallas.
