Israeli minister demands air, sea blockade on Iran

An Israeli cabinet minister Tuesday called on placing Iran under an air and sea blockade if it does not stop its presumed drive for nuclear arms.

“The time has come for the United States to place a clear ultimatum and deadline before Iran, and say that ‘if Iran does not stop its drive for nuclear weapons by such and such a date, an air and sea blockade must be imposed’,” Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz said Tuesday in an interview with Israel Radio.

“We appreciate the cooperation between the US and us and the sanctions that have been imposed, but we expect to hear clearer statements,” Xinhua quoted Steinitz as saying.

Memo to Israeli Finance Minister Steinitz: I would very strongly caution you, sir, that thinking Americans have grown sick, tired, and angry at the constant Israeli demand for American blood, and American money to be sacrificed upon the altar of potential Israeli hegemony in the Middle East.

I would rather suggest to Finance Minster Steinitz, should he feel that such an air and sea blockade be so urgently placed against Iran, that the Israeli military imminently capable of doing so.

We do not wish to see, nor will we willingly tolerate, the maiming for life or killing of one more American military personnel to “neutralize” any more of Israel’s alleged “existential threats” in the Middle East.

Panetta: When all else fails, the U.S. will act against Iran

Speaking at the AIPAC conference in Washington, U.S. Secretary of Defense says Israel, United States are stronger when they ‘work together’ to ensure Israel’s security.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – When all else fails the U.S. will “act against Iran,” U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta said at the AIPAC conference on Tuesday, adding that Washington and Jerusalem were stronger when “working together.”

Panetta’s address to the pro-Israel U.S. lobby came following appearances by President Shimon Peres, U.S. President Barack Obama, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, all of whom addressed Israel’s concerns regarding the military aspects of Iran’s nuclear program.

Iran lifts a veil: Tehran gives IAEA access to strategic Parchin site

Iran says it will allow the UN nuclear watchdog to inspect the facility where the West suspects work is under way to develop nuclear warheads. Meanwhile, the world’s major powers have agreed to a new round of six-party talks with Iran.

”Given that Parchin is a military site, access to this facility is a time-consuming process and it can’t be visited repeatedly,” said Iran’s diplomatic mission in Vienna, as cited by the Iranian semi-official ISNA news agency. However, the spokesperson then added that following IAEA demands, Tehran “will allow the IAEA to visit it one more time.”

The statement comes as fears grow that Israel may soon strike Iran in an attempt to destroy its nuclear facilities.

One cheerful moment: Israel’s undeclared nukes get a mention on the BBC

One cheerful moment, on last night’s Newsnight. Jeremy Paxman actually challenged the Israeli Ambassador, who seemed keen to attack Iran, over Israel’s nuclear weapons. First time in years I heard such a thing on the BBC.

Then when the Israeli Ambassador replied “Israel is not the one threatening to attack other countries” Paxman replied “You just discussed attacking Iran”.

All of which is entirely obvious, but almost totally absent from broadcast media.

Some Thoughts on Syria and Iran

Andrew J. Fell
Activist Post

I had a disheartening conversation with my friend a few days ago. We were discussing, as we often do, the current geo-political events that are unraveling and the subject moved onto Syria pretty quickly. I don’t often watch TV, but I sat with him and watched some of the coverage pretending to be news and felt sick to my stomach; the media bandwagon is whooping and cheering its way into yet another conflict — deja vu doesn’t quite describe it…

By conjuring the Holocaust, Netanyahu brought Israel closer to war with Iran

In his speech to the AIPAC conference Monday night Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu moved closer than ever to the point of no return en route to war with Iran.

The Holocaust talk has but one meaning: they force Israel to go to war and strike the Iranians. The justifications against an attack, weighty as those may be, turn to fumes when put up against the Warsaw Ghetto, Auschwitz, and Treblinka. No calculus of missiles falling on Tel Aviv, rising oil prices and economic crisis can hold water when compared to genocide.

Netanyahu is hungry for blood and money; American blood and money, to be specific, to be yet again sacrificed upon the altar of potential Israeli hegemony in the Middle East.

He has set his country, and ours, on the road to a war with horrendous potential unintended consequences.

I would very much like to strongly caution him about being very, very careful what he wishes for in this instance.

I would also like to remind him that Iranian leadership is many things, but stupid isn’t one of them. They would not dare to attack Israel, because they understand that it would be suicidal, on a national level, to attempt such an idiotic move.

El Al to Move Flights to IDF Base If Iran Attacks: Report

Israel’s national air carrier El Al will move its flights to military bases in the event of a war with Iran, according to the Hebrew-language Maariv newspaper.

Company executives reportedly met in an urgent discussion to deal with wartime scenarios as the Israeli government repeatedly warns that “time is running out” for a military attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

An El Al spokesman claimed that the report is “baseless” but did not say what the airline would do in case of war. He added that if a discussion of the subject had indeed been held, the company would not have commented on it.

Ben Gurion International Airport is located on the edge of the metropolitan Tel Aviv area, which would be a likely target by Iran in the event of war.

IF this story is true, it means that the execs at El Al have a bead on the Israeli timeline for war, and that timeline is very close at hand.

This story appears to be nothing more than propaganda to portray Iran as initiating this war. One possibility which should not be overlooked is of Israel faking an attack against either the US or Israel itself, to blame on Iran. But of course, common sense says, why would Iran do something that stupid?

Panetta on Iran: ‘We Will Act If We Have To’

US Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta on Tuesday vowed the United States would take military action to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon if diplomacy fails.

“Military action is the last alternative when all else fails,” he said at the America Israel Policy Committee conference. “But make no mistake, we will act if we have to.”

Netanyahu reportedly told Obama that Israel would remain the master of her own fate and would exercise its sovereignty in all matters of defense and foreign policy.

The statement was widely seen in Washington as a reaffirmation of US policy makers’ belief that Israel will strike Iran in the coming months if Tehran does not alter its course.

IF I had the chance to question Secretary Panetta, here is what I would like to ask him, in light of the fact that he has stated that Iran is not creating nuclear weapons as of yet:

“Secretary Panetta, as you well appreciate, several nuclear-armed countries (Pakistan, China, and Russia, to be precise) have all had some in their leadership go public in stating that should Iran be attacked militarily, they would go to Iran’s aid.

So isn’t what we have here the potential for a global thermonuclear war over an alleged Iranian weapons program which cannot be proven to exist?!?”

YOUNG, JEWISH AND PROUD TO STAND UP AGAINST AIPAC’S POLICIES

On March 4, 2012, 22 year old member of Young Jewish and Proud (the youth wing of Jewish Voice for Peace) Liza Behrendt stood up at the 2012 AIPAC Policy Conference in a breakout session called “The Struggle to Secure Israel on Campus” to call attention to the silencing of Palestinians— and young Jews who support them — on U.S. campuses. This action was part of OCCUPY AIPAC.

Israeli state officials disappointed with Obama meeting

Israeli state officials were disappointed Tuesday with the results of the Netanyahu-Obama meeting at the White House on Monday. “There were no surprises,” a senior state official said. “It was clear from recent months that there are differences between ourselves and the Americans. We have different perspectives when it comes to the question of time and red lines.”

It was claimed that the Americans view the Iranian issue in the context of the upcoming presidential elections. “It’s a bad message for the issue and a good message for the Iranians,” a state official said.

Translation: Israel will bomb Iran sooner rather than later (or perhaps time the attack at the worst possible time for Obama in an election year), at which point the US military will be tasked with cleaning up the mess.

Activists Occupy AIPAC with message to Congress: No War On Iran

Debunking Anti-Iran Propaganda: The Myth of the “New Holocaust”

In a pattern of propaganda now well-established in the mainstream media, fear-mongering against Iran is reaching an all-time peak. A case in point includes ongoing accusations that Iran is in violation of the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, despite statements to the contrary from U.S. Defence Secretary Leon Panetta as well as a number of American intelligence officials[1].

(Ahem).

1. The only government with nuclear weapons in the Middle East is Israel, a country which refuses to sign the NNPT, or have its nuclear sites inspected by the IAEA.

2. The Iranian leadership is many things, but stupid is not one of them. They understand that any attack against Israel would result in the US and Israel raining nuclear bombs on the heads of Iran’s citizens, and they do not want to see this happen.

3. Iran has not started a war in over 200 years, and definitely since becoming an Islamic republic in 1979.

4. Iran is home to the largest Jewish population in the Middle East outside of Israel.

25,000 Jews live in Iran. It’s the largest Jewish population in the Middle East outside of Israel. Iranian Jews are not persecuted or abused by the state, in fact, they are protected under Iran’s constitution. They are free to practice their religion and to vote in elections. They are not stopped and searched at checkpoints, they are not brutalized by an occupying army, and they are not herded into a densely-populated penal colony (Gaza) where they are deprived of the basic means of survival. Iranian Jews live in dignity and enjoy the benefits of citizenship. Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is demonized in the western media. He is called an anti-Semite and the “new Hitler”. But if those claims are true, then why did the majority of Iran’s Jews vote for Ahmadinejad in recent presidential elections? Could it be that most of what we know about Ahmadinejad is just baseless rumor and propaganda? This excerpt appeared in an article by the BBC: “(Ahmadinejad’s) office recently donated money for Tehran’s Jewish hospital. It is one of only four Jewish charity hospitals worldwide and is funded with money from the Jewish diaspora – something remarkable in Iran where even local aid organizations have difficulty receiving funds from abroad for fear of being accused of being foreign agents.” When did Hitler ever donate money to Jewish hospitals? The Hitler analogy is a desperate attempt to brainwash Americans. It tells us nothing about what Ahmadinejad is really like. The lies about Ahmadinejad are no different than the lies about Saddam Hussein or Hugo Chavez. The US and Israel are trying to create the justification for another war. That’s why the media credits Ahmadinejad with saying things that he never really said. He never said that he wanted to “wipe Israel off the map”. That’s another fiction. Things aren’t perfect for Jews living in Iran, but they’re better than they are for Palestinians living in Gaza. Much better.

Santorum: Iran an existential threat to free world

Existential threat?

Pop quiz: How many nations has Iran invaded since it became an Islamic republic in 1979?

How many nations has Israel invaded since 1979?

How many nations has the United States invaded since 1979?

Who is the existential threat?

UPDATE: The “Megaphonies” are already piling into the comments section with the usual “Iran wants to kill all the Jews” propaganda.

The reality is that Iran has a large Jewish population, so comfortable that they refused a financial incentive from the government of Israel to emigrate.

There are many synagogues in Iran, one of which has a Torah that is 800 years old! Now, if there were a grain of truth in Israel’s claim that Iran wants to kill the Jews, would Iran not start with those living inside their own borders?

Economic Warfare and Strangling Sanctions: Punishing Iran for its “Defiance” of the United States

The economic sanctions imposed upon Iran are having the desired effect of punishing the population through hunger and economic strangulation, making life miserable for the many. As tensions increase between the “international community” (the West) and Iran, talk of war is in the air. For years, sanctions have been imposed upon Iran in an attempt to devastate its dependence upon the oil industry for 80% of its revenues.

Netanyahu in AIPAC speech: Israel cannot afford to wait much longer on Iran

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, speaking at the AIPAC conference in Washington on Monday, called on the international community to acknowledge the fact that Iran is developing nuclear weapons.

“Amazingly, some people refuse to acknowledge that Iran’s goal is to develop nuclear weapons. You see, Iran claims that it’s enriching uranium to develop medical research. Yeah, right,” Netanyahu said.

“If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then what is it? That’s right, it’s a duck. But this duck is a nuclear duck and it’s time the world started calling a duck a duck,” he said.

Memo to Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu: the international community cannot acknowledge that Iran is developing nuclear weapons, because “there is no there…there.”

To date, no IAEA inspection has found any nuclear material diverted for a weapons program. So, by claiming that Iran is developing nuclear weapons, are you calling the IAEA a collective bunch of idiots?!?

And sir, I would strongly caution you that Americans have grown sick, tired, and angry at the continual demand for American blood, and American money to be sacrificed upon the altar of ultimate potential Israeli hegemony in the Middle East. We have had enough, thank you very much, and understand clearly that you can handle yourself brilliantly, both militarily and financially, on your own.

We are painfully aware that in order to “neutralize” your former “existential threat” in the Middle East (Iraq being the threat du jure at that time), the US government sold the American people an absolute pack of lies as to why that war had to be fought. And of course, we all know just how brilliantly that turned out for the US. Let me see now; over a million Iraqis dead; thousands suffering from exposure to depleted uranium, which is manifesting as cancer and severe birth defects; thousands of Americans killed and maimed for life; we got kicked out of Iraq by the puppet government we had helped install, and on top of it, a trillion dollar sucker punch to the Federal budget.

All in all, sir, THAT little “neutralization” on Israel’s behalf didn’t actually go very well for the US. I do not expect, if the US attacks Iran, that things will go much better, and for the following reasons.

Unless there is a blitzkrieg attack, executed to perfection, the US cannot sustain a protracted war. The US government doesn’t have the troop strength, the financial capability, or the manufacturing capability to fight a war lasting for very long.

Added to that is the reality that government leaders of three nuclear armed countries have gone public in saying that if Iran is attacked, they will assist it militarily.

So what we have here is a scenario for a global thermonuclear war over an alleged Iranian weapons program which cannot be proven to exist.

Any nation with more ancient artifacts than Israel must be destroyed. And so on and so on and so on.

Netanyahu and AIPAC, Beating the War Drum to Attack Iran

As many of you know, AIPAC is holding its annual conference this weekend at the Washington D.C. Convention Center. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is to be the keynote speaker on Monday.

Sure to be on his agenda is Iran’s nuclear program with the ultimate fate of Israel hanging in the balance. Of course this is pure fabrication. Israel has nuclear weapons and the capability to defend itself. Meanwhile, Iran presents no threat, imminent or otherwise, to Israel.

Dear Mr. Neyanyahu. If you truly feel that you need to make war on Iran, help yourself. Here is a rifle, here is a parachute, here’s a helmet. We ran out of the desert camo but we have lots of left over bright orange jumpsuits from Abu Ghraib. Watch your step climbing into that transport aircraft, and we’ll call Tehran and tell them you are on your way to kick their butts all by yourself!

But after those whoppers you told us all about Saddams’ nuclear weapons, you will forgive us if we keep our children safe at home. Israel has a poor history of telling friend from foe and you might shoot them yourself!

Iran vs Israel: What The Media Wants You To Forget

The corporate media have been given their orders to throw the focus back on to Iran.

Here is a recap of what they are trying to make you forget.

1. Last Spring, Rose Gottemoeller, an assistant secretary of state and Washington’s chief nuclear arms negotiator, asked Israel to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Israel refused.

2. The United Nations passed a resolution calling on Israel to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and to submit to inspections. Israel refused.

3. The IAEA asked Israel to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and to submit to inspections. Israel refused.

4. Iran’s formal notification to the IAEA of the planned construction of the backup fuel-rod facility underscores that Iran is playing by the rules of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty which Iran has signed.

5. Iran allows IAEA inspections of all its facilities.

6. Contrary to face-saving claims, it appears that the US and Israel were both caught off guard by Iran’s announcement of a planned underground (to avoid being bombed) enrichment facility. The reasoning is simple. Had the US or Israel announced the existence of he new facility before Iran’s notified the IAEA, it would have put Iran on the defensive. As it is now, the US and Israel seem to be playing catch up, casting doubt on the veracity of Israel’s claims to \”know\” that Iran is a nuclear threat.

7. The IAEA and all 16 United States Intelligence Agencies are unanimous in agreement that Iran is not building and does not possess nuclear weapons.

8. In 1986, Mordachai Vanunu blew the whistle and provided photographs showing Israel’s clandestine nuclear weapons factory underneath the reactor at Dimona.

9. Israel made the same accusations against Iraq that it is making against Iran, leading up to Israel’s bombing of the power station at Osirik. Following the invasion of 2003, international experts examined the ruins of the power station at Osirik and found no evidence of a clandestine weapons factory in the rubble.

10. The United Nations has just released the Goldstone Report, a scathing report which accuses Israel of 37 specific war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza earlier this year. Israel has denounced the report as \”Anti-Semitic (even though Judge Goldstone is himself Jewish), and the United States will block the report from being referred to the War Crimes Tribunal at the Hague, thereby making the US Government an accessory after-the-fact.

11. Recently revealed documents prove not only that Israel has nuclear weapos, but actually tried to sell some to Apartheid South Africa. Who else Israel approached to sell nuclear weapons remains an unasked question.

12. In 1965, Israel stole over 200-600 pounds of weapons-grade uranium from the United States.

13. Declassified documents from the former South African regime prove not only that Israel has had nuclear weapons for decades, but has tried to sell them to other countries!

We all need to be Joe Wilson right now. We need to stand up and scream, \”LIAR!\” at every politician and every talking media moron that is pushing this war in Iran. And we need to keep dong it until they get the message that we will not be deceived any more.

Israel wants to send your kids off to die in Iran, and YOU are the only one that can stop them.

IAEA: No Evidence Iran is Developing a Nuclear Weapon

PBS reports that Iran is following all safeguards of the International Atomic Energy Agency. The IAEA is unable to produce any credible evidence that Iran was interested in producing a nuclear weapon in the past.

Iran is producing low-enriched uranium for the Tehran Research Reactor. They have been honest in their declarations of the number of centrifuges they possess for enrichment. The IAEA is unaware of any facilities for reprocessing spent nuclear fuel.

Iran’s heavy-water nuclear reactor should be operational in 2014 in Arak.

Uranium oxide will be produced in two forms of which Iran has specified to the agency they will produce pellet, fuel rod, and fuel assembly production using natural Uranium oxide.

U.S. Officials Believe Netanyahu Has Already Decided to Strike Iran

Channel 2 in Israel, sourcing a “senior American official”, says that the decision has already been made by the Israeli government to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Let us recall that Israel attacked Iraq’s nuclear power station at Orisak in 1961, even though again there was no evidence of a weapons program and more to the point, the reactor design was incapable of making weapons materials. And following the invasion of 2003, IAEA inspectors examined the remains of the Osirak power station and confirmed that there had never been any nuclear weapons facility underneath it, as Israel has underneath Dimona. As a side note, the 2003 invasion of Iraq was based on more claims by Israel of an Iraqi clandestine nuclear weapons program. Again, the claims were false.

So here we are again once more with Israel screaming about the Iranian nuclear thr3eat, and having been batting zero up until how why is anyone even bothering to listen to th3se habitual liars?

But Israel has decided to bomb Iran’s civilian power station based on nothing more than their paranoid delusion. This is, of course, an act of war, and Iran will be morally justified in launching an immediate counter-attack. Israel is not worried about an Iranian counter-attack because their plan is to pile up lots and lots of American kids as bullet-stoppers to protect their precious Israeli soldiers and despite being clearly in the wrong, the US Government seems to be perfectly happy to provide said American children bullet stoppers in exchange for some generous donations to their re-election campaigns.

There is a word for this plan by the US Government to take your children and sell their services to a foreign owner, and that word is “slavery.”

So, it is clear that the US government is unable and unwilling to stand up to Israel lust for conquest (as long as someone else’ kids bleed for it). Fine. Let Israel attack Iran by themselves and let Israel deal with the consequences by themselves. And on the day the US Government demands we send our children to defend Israel from Iran’s righteous wrath, that should be the day we fire this government, and replace it with one that will value our children’s lives more highly than those of Israel.

IRAN THE DANGER TO WORLD PEACE? I DON’T THINK SO!

Since the 1979 Iranian revolution and the downfall of the US Puppet Ruler the Shah, Iran has been an Islamic state. In that interval of time, 1979 to the present, Iran has not invaded anyone. Not once. People of all religions live in peace in Iran, even Jews, who find life so comfortable in Iran they refused an offer by the government of Israel to emigrate!

In the same period of time, Israel, a self-declared Jewish state, attacked Iraq in 1981, bombing the power station at Osirik, claiming it was a clandestine weapons factory. Subsequent examination of the ruins following the 2003 invasion proved Israel had lied. In 1982, Israel invaded Lebanon. This led to the Massacres at Sabra and Shatilla. In February 2003 Israel staged incursions into Gaza and Nablus. In September 2007 Israel bombed Syria, again insisting they were destroying a clandestine weapons laboratory. Again there was no evidence to support Israel’s claims. In 2006, Israel attacked Lebanon, killing 1200, mostly civilians, several UN observers, and littering the landscape with land mines on their way out. In February 2008 Israel again raided Gaza, killing over 100. HAMAS agreed to a cease fire and kept it for 6 months until November 4, when Israel again attacked without warning, killing 6 HAMAS members, and launching operation CAST LEAD. 1300 Gazans, mostly civilians, were killed. Israel lost 13 soldiers. Violations of international law included the use of White Phosphorus incendiary bombs against civilians and non-military targets. The United Nations investigated, but Israel refused to cooperate. In May 2010, Israel attacked an international aid flotilla bringing food and medical supplies to Gaza in international waters. 9 people were murdered including an American from New York.

In the same period of time, the United States, officially a secular nation but predominantly Christian, attacked El Salvador (1980), Libya (1981), Sinai (1982), Lebanon (1982 1983), Egypt (1983), Grenada (1983), Honduras (1983), Chad (1983), Persian Gulf (1984), Libya (1986) , Bolivia (1986), Iran (1987), Persian Gulf (1987), Kuwait (1987), Iran (1988), Honduras (1988), Panama (1988), Libya (1989), Panama (1989), Colombia, Bolivia, and Peru (1989), Philippines (1989), Panama (1989-1990), Liberia (1990), Saudi Arabia (1990), Iraq (1991), Zaire (1991), Sierra Leone (1992), Somalia (1992), Bosnia-Herzegovina (1993 to present), Macedonia (1993), Haiti (1994), Macedonia (1994), Bosnia (1995), Liberia (1996), Central African Republic (1996), Albania (1997), Congo/Gabon (1997), Sierra Leon (1997), Cambodia (1997), Iraq (1998), Guinea/Bissau (1998), Kenya/Tanzania (1998 to 1999), Afghanistan/Sudan (1998), Liberia (1998), East Timor (1999), Serbia (1999), Sierra Leon (2000), Yemen (2000), East Timor (2000), Afghanistan (2001 to present), Yemen (2002), Philippines (2002) , Cote d’Ivoire (2002), Iraq (2003 to present), Liberia (2003), Georgia/Djibouti (2003), Haiti (2004), Georgia/Djibouti/Kenya/Ethiopia/Yemen/Eritrea War on Terror (2004), Pakistan drone attacks (2004 to present), Somalia (2007), South Ossetia/Georgia (2008), Syria (2008), Yemen (2009), Haiti (2010), etc. etc. etc. etc.

So, who is the danger to world peace?

Israeli spies warn against military strike on Iran’

Despite Israel’s rulers pushing for an attack on Iran, intelligence does not recommend it, Thomas R. Pickering, former US Ambassador to Israel, told RT. It is mutual distrust between Iran and the US that stalls the diplomatic settlement, he believes.

**RT gives this Ambassador a tough time.:) Well done!!

Motive for Iranian student’s killing a mystery

Homicide detectives here say they are exploring every possible avenue as they investigate the assassination-style killing of an Iranian dissident as she drove home late one night in mid-January.

Gelareh Bagherzadeh, 30, was shot and killed on January 15 as she drove her father’s car home just before midnight. She was studying molecular genetic technology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

“The evidence indicated that she had been shot through the passenger side window,” Houston Police Sgt. J.C. Padilla said. “She was shot one time and an autopsy revealed she had been shot in the head.”

Romney promises military option to stop Iran nukes

Republican candidate Mitt Romney says that if he were president, he would combine diplomacy with “a military option” to stop Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Romney says his plan would include returning U.S. aircraft carrier groups to the eastern Mediterranean Sea and the Persian Gulf. He also says he would increase military assistance to Israel.

AIPAC Pushing for War With Iran? (Jewish Voice for Peace featured)

It’s annual tradition…more than 13,000 people gathering in the nation’s capital for the American Israel Public Affairs Committee’s annual conference. AIPAC is considered to be one of the most powerful lobbying groups in America, and they hold the conference each year showcasing American-Israeli unity. But just how much power the group has over U.S. foreign policy stirs controversy. Protesters outside the convention center say Israel and AIPAC are dragging America into war with Iran. They’re also protesting the lobbying group’s enormous impact on U.S. politics.

UN inspectors get rare access to suspected Iran nuclear site

Iran has agreed to let United Nations inspectors into a military complex suspected of nuclear weapons development, a day after the top inspector warned he had “serious concerns” over activities at the site.

The semi-official Iranian Students’ News Agency reported Tuesday that Iran’s mission to the UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna confirmed inspectors would be allowed to visit the Parchin military complex, located near Tehran. “Parchin is a military site and accessing it is a time-consuming process, therefore visits cannot be allowed frequently … We will allow the IAEA to visit it one more time,” the statement said.

Although this sounds hopeful, don’t count on the IAEA’s Director Amano to give the Parchin facility a clean bill of health.

If, in fact, this inspection goes forward, you can almost count on Amano to spin some lurid scenarios, implying – while not stating directly – that the Iranians are using this facility for the development of nuclear weapons.

EU Oil Sanctions to Increase Iran’s Oil Revenues $10bln

One month after the EU decision to impose an oil ban on supplies from Iran, many international energy analysts have come to describe the decision as an inexperienced and immature move which will hit a heavy blow to the EU nations and inflict huge economic losses on the European states.

This is while the price of Iran’s oil has reached $125 in recent days which shows a 20-dollar increase in one month. Analysts also predict that crude prices in the world will further witness increase in the coming months.

Talk about your unintended consequences!!

Obama, AIPAC And The Rest of US

Yesterday at AIPAC annual conference, the American president had to go out of his way to appease his Jewish crowd. He used every trick in the book, he even peppered his talk with some Yiddish sporadic words and he did it all just to justify his decision not to launch a World War as yet.

One should ask, how come a lobby of a small state that practices the most appalling racist expansionist politics and practices has managed to gain so much political power in the USA.
