Proof that War Is Bad for the Economy

Top Economists Say War Is Bad for the Economy

Preface: Many Americans – including influential economists and talking heads – assume that war is good for the economy. Many congressmen assume that cutting pork-barrel military spending would hurt their constituents’ jobs. As demonstrated below, it isn’t true.

Nobel-prize winning economist Joseph Stiglitz says that war is bad for the economy:

MF Global Turns Into Battle Between Hedge Funds and Customers

In a brokerage bankruptcy the customers have priority over other creditors including bondholders, who in this case include some hedge funds. The CFTC is on record for this in the case of MF Global.

But in an amazing bit of legal switcheroo, the regulators at the SEC and the court agreed to treat MF like a Chapter 11 bankruptcy rather than a Chapter 7. As the article points out, there are two trustees, Giddens who is nominally representing the customers, and Freeh who is representing the creditors.

As an interesting sideshow, Louis Freeh had exclusive possession of the MF Global emails and other evidence, and refused to share it with government agencies until his attorneys had an opportunity to sift through them.

The Kill Switch Comes to the PC – Bloomberg

Janne Kytömäki, a Finnish software developer, was cruising Google’s (GOOG) Android Market for smartphone apps last year when he noticed something strange. Dozens of best-selling applications suddenly listed the same wrong publisher. It was as if Stephen King’s name had vanished from the covers of his books, replaced by an unknown author. Kytömäki realized the culprit was a piece of malware that was spreading quickly, and he posted his findings online. Google responded swiftly. It flipped a little-known kill switch, reaching into more than 250,000 infected Android smartphones and forcibly removing the malicious code. Google, Apple (AAPL), and Amazon (AMZN) all have the ability to reach into devices to delete illicit content or edit code without users’ permission.

Documents Show DHS Lied to Congress About Big Brother Policies

The Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) has been leading a valiant effort to reveal the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS’s) Big Brother policies which include spying on Americans’ activity on social networks, especially people who express dissenting opinions.

EPIC is now claiming that the DHS actually lied to Congress during a hearing (read the transcript here) surrounding the DHS’s $11.4 million contract to monitor social networks for activity which is fully protected by free speech.

Weekly Reality Update

We have set the bar of journalism, of debate, even our mindless personal attacks have become inane. We are boring ourselves to death.

Let’s start with something simple. When Egypt fell, a year ago, we learned that Mubarak was working for Israel for decades. The entire nation of Israel should have risen up, enraged but in reality, nothing happened at all. Betrayal is expected.

Worse in America.

Yet, for decades, Israel got billions from the US to protect themselves from Mubarak and others that, with things as they are now, we can clearly see have worked with Israel for years. Syria is one of them.

The Slide to War

According to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Iran is building nuclear weapons that pose an “existential” threat to Israel. But virtually no one believes this, including the bulk of Tel Aviv’s military and intelligence communities. As former Israeli Chief of Staff Dan Halutz said recently, Iran “is not an existential” threat to Israel.

Sixteen trillion here, fifteen trillion there, soon you’re talking real money

Thanks to an amendment by U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, the Wall Street reform law passed in July 2010 directed the Government Accountability Office to conduct “the first top-to-bottom audit of the Federal Reserve.”

“As a result of this audit, we now know that the Federal Reserve provided more than $16 trillion in total financial assistance to some of the largest financial institutions and corporations in the United States and throughout the world,” said Sanders. “This is a clear case of socialism for the rich and rugged, you’re-on-your-own individualism for everyone else.”

But what we also know from Page 137 of the Government Accountability Office report is that by last summer, every cent of the $16 trillion had been repaid.

Upon return to Israel, Druze students say Syria crisis isn’t all that it seems

“I went out to the street when I heard there was a demonstration, but I didn’t see anyone,” he said. “A large part of the pictures and reports from Syria are not reliable, at least that was our impression.”

Another student, Wissam Safdy, agreed. “I went to the al-Mazzah neighborhood in Damascus when there were reports of demonstrations, but I didn’t see anything,” he said. “We don’t know what’s happening, but in Damascus things are calm, and the prevailing feeling is that in the end Syria will come out of this crisis.”

News of the World bosses ‘ordered mass email deletion in bid to cover up phone hacking’

News of the World bosses ordered emails that could be used against them in court to be deleted to cover up phone hacking, leaked documents have revealed.

Hundreds of thousands of emails were deleted on ‘nine separate occasions’ while computers were destroyed and a senior executive ordered a staff member to remove all paper records connected to them.

The revelation couldn’t come at a worse time for News International as the company gears up to launch The Sun on Sunday this weekend.

What If Democracy Is Bunk?

Judge Napolitano is back, still asking the kind of real questions that make Fox cringe:

What if you are only allowed to vote because it doesn’t make a difference? What if no matter how you vote, the elites get to have it their way? What if “one person, one vote” is just a fiction created by the government to induce your compliance? What if democracy is dangerous to personal freedom? What if the government remains the same no matter who wins elections?

Teachers: how are you teaching US War Crimes, destruction of US Constitution?

*hyperlinks and video live at source*

We teach limited government under a constitution that secures unalienable rights of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. This first right means that one’s life cannot be taken by tyrannical government.

The two-minute video is Defense Secretary Panetta claiming US law allows assassinating Americans if government merely says an American is guilty of a crime. Acts upon what the leader says at any given time rather than limited power under law is the etymology of dictatorship. “Law” based on the dictates of a leader is exactly what Nazi Germany had; their word for leader was fuhrer.

THE LIE OF THE CENTURY

EVERYTHING THEY ARE SAYING ABOUT IRAN TODAY, THEY SAID ABOUT IRAQ IN 2003.

ALL WARS ARE STARTED WITH LIES.

ALL WARS ARE STARTED WITH LIES.

ALL WARS ARE STARTED WITH LIES.

FOOL ME ONCE…

Let Your Life Be a Friction to Stop the Machine

An excellent summation, at least from the political point of view, of where we are right now, how we got here, and the fact that the masses of humanity MUST wake up to the reality of the situation if the worst is to mitigated.

Would You Support a War Against Iran If You Knew the True Facts?

The CIA admits that the U.S. overthrew the moderate, suit-and-tie-wearing, Democratically-elected prime minister of Iran in 1953. He was overthrown because he had nationalized Iran’s oil, which had previously been controlled by BP and other Western oil companies. As part of that action, the CIA admits that it hired Iranians to pose as Communists and stage bombings in Iran in order to turn the country against its prime minister

Syrians Deny Western Claims Nation in Midst of Bloodbath

Groups and individuals with ulterior motives are shaping the reporting of events in Syria and using the media to sway the public in order to make the case for intervening in that country’s internal affairs. In the Western media, fresh atrocities are commented upon regularly and the blame is placed on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. (Article attached)
