Listen to what Ron Paul says, not what others say about him

Thomas Jefferson said, “I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than those attending too small a degree of it.” Real liberty is a scary concept but it is what this country is all about, and it’s worth fighting for, dying for, even worth getting so weird about that you might dare to vote for a weird guy.

Don’t listen to what others say about Ron Paul — listen to the man himself before deciding what you think of him. I urge you to vote for him in the primary Feb. 28 so we can have a real option in November.

Firsthand Account: Israeli Plot to Murder Former US Senator

James Abourezk represented South Dakota in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1971 to 1973 and in the U.S. Senate from 1973 to 1979. He is the author of numerous articles and books, including Advise & Dissent: Memoirs of South Dakota and the U.S. Senate. CNI asked Mr. Abourezk about his experiences with the Israel Lobby while he served in Congress. In his response he told of an Israeli plot against him that has received perplexingly little coverage in the U.S. press.

Netanyahu calls top US general a servant of Iran

Gen. Dempsey denounced a strike on Iran in the near future as “destabilizing” and “not prudent” over the weekend while speaking to CNN in regards to America and Israel’s effort to prevent Tehran from developing a nuclear warhead. Israel Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has now addressed that statement himself, calling into question the US official’s intentions.

Netanyahu is now suggesting that the US is adopting policies that will favor Iran, and not their historical ally: Israel.

My Hebrew is just about as fluent as is my Syriac (non-existent), but if Netnanyahu really said that the US is “… adopting policies that will favor Iran.”, the US should immediately withdraw its ambassador from Tel Aviv, declare Prime Minister Netanyahu Persona Non Grata in the US, and immediately pull all military and financial aid to Israel.

I know that will only happen when pigs fly; however, Netanyahu’s absolutely hubristically ungrateful dismissiveness of the US, which has bent over backwards to consistently support Israel, is a slight which cannot remain unaddressed, and should be addressed in the most concrete and meaningful ways possible, and in a language Israeli leadership will understand.

I do not know what kinds of threats or inducements Netanyahu will attempt to offer President Obama when they meet on 5 March to sign off on either a joint US/Israeli strike against Iran, and very soon, or simply a sign off on an Israeli strike, and very quickly.

But I do know that Pakistani, Russian, and Chinese leadership have recently publicly stated that should Iran be attacked, all three of these nuclear armed countries will enter the fray on the side of Iran.

So what we have here, is a potential global, thermonuclear war over an alleged Iranian weapons program which cannot, to date, be proven to exist.

And I would strongly caution Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu regarding the following: the American people are sick, tired, and angry at the cost in American blood and American money which Israel consistently demands be sacrificed on the altar of ultimate Israeli hegemony in the Middle East. We, sir, have had it, and wish this to stop immediately, thank you very much.

So please, Mr. Prime Minister: I would honestly, and respectfully, ask that you be very, very careful what you wish for as to the ultimate outcome of a US/Israeli attack against Iran..

Real cowards go to Tehran

Brent crude is hitting $121 a barrel – an eight-month high. West Texas Intermediate, traded in New York, is hovering around $105. Brent is crucial, because it sets the consumer price for gasoline in most of the US and Western Europe. The neo-cons swore on their Bibles and Torahs there would be no oil spike. It happened – like clockwork, proving once again their knowledge of market speculation is of a two-year-old (no offense to lovely two-year-olds).

The attempted embargo of Iranian oil has had the absolute opposite effect from what Washington wanted to see happen.

And you are telling me that NOBODY in the White House, State Department, or Pentagon saw these events coming as a result of this embargo?!?

Folks, if this cascading set of unintended consequences doesn’t scare the crud out of you, it should.

Because this means that there is a real possibility that every other decision this administration has made is just as logic-challenged as was the decision on the embargo; and if this is the case, we, as a nation, are really in a world of hurt.

Romney lays ground for China trade war

For someone who claims not to want a trade war with China, Romney is making a pretty compelling case for how his administration would make one all but certain.

Admittedly, this is the safest way to interpret Romney’s most recent volley towards the Chinese: as the primary shifts back to his “home state”, China presents an issue that certainly has bi-partisan traction in a manufacturing-sensitive midwestern economy like Michigan, where China’s economy is perceived to have benefited at the expense of middle-class American blue-collar workers.

China is not the problem here in terms of offshored US jobs winding up there; the real problem are tax advantages US companies get for sending US jobs overseas. Change the tax code, and the problem at least lessens for American workers.

At issue is the U.S. tax code’s treatment of profits earned by foreign subsidiaries of American corporations. Profits earned in the United States are subject to the 35% corporate tax. But multinational corporations can defer paying U.S. taxes on their overseas profits until they return them to the USA — transfers that often don’t happen for years. General Electric, for example, has $62 billion in “undistributed earnings” parked offshore, according to recent Securities and Exchange Commission filings. Drug giant Pfizer boasts $60 billion. ExxonMobil has $56 billion. “If you had two companies in Pittsburgh that both were going to expand capacity and create 100 jobs, our tax code puts the company who chooses to put the plant in Pittsburgh at a competitive disadvantage over the company that chooses to move to a tax haven,” says former White House economist Gene Sperling, a Clinton adviser.

“There should be no daylight between America and Israel in our assessment of the [Iranian] threat,” McCain said at a Jerusalem press conference.

“Unfortunately there clearly is some.”

McCain, the ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, is the head of a five-member bipartisan senate delegation touring the region. His comments came just two days after Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said in a CNN interview it would not be prudent for Israel to attack Iran at this point, and added that Iran is a “rational” actor.

Memo to John McCain and Lindsey Graham: the “big lie” technique, gentlemen, is not working at all.

To date, no IAEA inspections have revealed any diversion of nuclear materials in Iran from an energy program to a nuclear weapons program.

So the US, as a favor to Israel, is supposed to haul off and whack Iran militarily for an alleged nuclear arms program which cannot be proven to exist?!? This is tortured logic beyond waterboarding, gentlemen!!

And Senator Mc Cain, when you make the assertion that “There is no doubt that Iran has so far been undeterred on the path of acquiring nuclear weapons,” how, sir, can you say this with a straight face, when this when no evidence of such a weapons program has been proven to exist?!?

And Senators Graham and McCain, I would caution you very strongly on the following: the American people are sick, tired, and angry about the cost, in American blood and money, being sacrificed upon the altar of ultimate Israeli regional hegemony in the Middle East. They want it to stop, and right the heck now, thank you very much.

If you do not want this to stop, and with all your collective cheerleading for yet another American-driven war with which to “neutralize” another of Israel’s “existential threats” in the region it appears you do not, it is obvious that you no longer represent the interests and needs of the American people, but the interests and needs of the Israeli government in Tel Aviv.

No person can serve two masters, gentlemen: these statements on your part have made it painfully and blatantly obvious who and what you serve, and it is not We the People.

Germany Sells Israel More Dolphin Subs

“It is also rumored that Israel has tested a nuclear-capable version of its medium-range “Popeye Turbo” cruise missile design for deployability from the 650mm torpedo tubes in its Dolphin Class submarines. The 2002 Popeye Turbo launch test location off Sri Lanka suggested that the tests may have been performed in cooperation with India.”

As US Debt To GDP Passes 101%, The Global Debt Ponzi Enters Its Final Stages

Today, without much fanfare, US debt to GDP hit 101% with the latest issuance of $32 billion in 2 Year Bonds. If the moment when this ratio went from double to triple digits is still fresh in readers minds, is because it is: total debt hit and surpassed the most recently revised Q4 GDP on January 30, or just three weeks ago. Said otherwise, it has taken the US 21 days to add a full percentage point to this most critical of debt sustainability ratios: but fear not, with just under $1 trillion in new debt issuance on deck in the next 9 months, we will be at 110% in no time.

It appears that it is not a question of IF the US government starts to default on its debt, but when.

Questions surround government’s actions in “underwear” bomber case

As ugly and conspiratorial as it sounds, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was permitted to board flight 253 with explosives despite being identified as a terrorist.

You need not take our word for it, however. Undersecretary of Management at the U.S. State Department, Patrick F. Kennedy, disclosed this tidbit during a January 27, 2010 hearing of the House Committee on Homeland Security.

Rick Santorum cries Nazi

Rick Santorum sees Nazis everywhere: in the Middle East, in doctor’s offices and medical labs, in the Democratic Party, and now in the White House.

I guess Satan didn’t get any traction. What’s next, Rick? Little green men in UFOs?
