One Too Many In The Cuckoo’s Nest — Shock Therapy Still Used to Control Behavior

Did you know that electroshock therapy is still a common practice? It’s true that electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) nearly died out after Jack Nicholson’s performance in One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest and the major influx of psychotropic drugs beginning around the ’60s.

But just as ECT was going extinct its use picked up in the ’90s and continued to grow exponentially…

Europe and The UK

UK surveillance culture, ‘runaway’

Big Brother Watch, Britain’s leading campaign group defending individual privacy and civil liberties, has revealed that the real cost of installing CCTV cameras in Britain over the past four years saying it stands at more than GBP 515 million.

Despite the huge cost of the British government’s ‘haphazard and badly measured rush to spy on citizens,’ Big Brother Watch maintained that there is no evidence showing any decrease in crime due to the increase in surveillance.

Jack Straw calls for Direct Elections to the European Parliament to end due to ‘democratic deficit’

Former foreign secretary Jack Straw has claimed that failing to give voters across Europe a proper say about joining the Euro has contributed to the problems facing the single currency, and warned against any further major EU treaties being passed without the direct approval of the public.

On Sentiment

On Sentiment

It has been my observation over (sadly) a long period of time that when all of the “stars” line up and point in one direction, it’s often time to go in another direction. The commentary on the TV shows and newspapers is usually the last place one would go to for investment advice. The media is, however, a good place to consider if one was looking for signs that sentiment has gotten away from reality. I wonder if the market enthusiasm in this ABC News clip isn’t a signal that we have reached a tipping point.

I am investing my money in canned foods and shotguns.

HUNGER STRIKE ENDS BUT STILL STARVING FOR FREEDOM

The Supreme Court of Israel ruled yesterday to release Khader Adnan from prison on the 17th of April without charge. As a result Khader agreed to end his 66 day old hunger strike, the longest ever by a Palestinian prisoner.

Support demonstrations were held throughout the world the past few weeks, including THIS one which I posted about yesterday. (BTW, the man holding the sign in the first photo is Udi Aloni who is no stranger to Jenin, Khader’s hometown).

Punishing years under siege, Cast Lead’s devastation, and regular IDF air, land and sea attacks took a terrible toll on Gazans physically, economically and emotionally.

Arming Al-Qaeda: US to Pump Weapons into Syria Warzone?

Sadistic Israeli land thieves destroy Palestinian sheep shed with sheep still inside.

We often report about house demolitions, but it is something else to see one up close. Two days ago in Palestine I saw “the cruelest demolition” in the tiny village of Sadat a Thaale in the southern West Bank.

Last Wednesday morning, the Israeli civil administration came into the village, which is situated between two sprawling Israeli settlements, and used heavy equipment to destroy three structures: a house that was home to eight people, a cistern, and a large sheep shed. The authorities did not even empty the shed of sheep when they crushed the roof. Farmer Jamil Awad told international visitors that five sheep were killed, including one lamb.

IGNORE THE BDS MOVEMENT AND IT WILL GO AWAY

The conclusion that the ministry and organizations such as ADL are beginning to come around to is that the best defense to the BDS campaign, is not an attack that will simply draw more attention, but disengagement and pro-Israel activities which are not seen as a direct response.

The reality is that the Movement is growing by leaps and bounds among students on every major campus in the united States.

Iran

UN atomic agency team ‘denied access’ to suspected Iran nuclear site

Not that I think this actually happened. but if we take this story at face value, we need to keep something in mind. The NNPT requires signators to identify all nuclear sites to the IAEA and allow full inspections. Iran has already complied. The NNPT does NOT grant the IAEA a blanket license to wander about the country at will because such activity can and has been used as a cover for espionage, which Iran is rightly seeking to contain. What I think happened is that someone’s asset covered as an IAEA inspector pointed a finger at an Iranian facility they already know is not a nuclear facility, knowing that Iran would refuse access to sensitive areas, in order to create another headline demonizing the intended victim.

Remember Iraq.

There were no weapons of mass destruction despite all the allegations and rumors and suspicions showered all over the media ahead of time.

So this new report about Iran is just more of the same bovine excrement.

Rick Santorum: Obama helping Iran obtain nuclear weapons

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum on Thursday accused President Barack Obama of actively seeking ways to allow Iran to gain a nuclear weapon …

Let’s see, Santorum has claimed …

1. Iran will attack North Dakota.

2. Satan is attacking America.

3. Nazis are in the White House

And now …

4. Obama is helping Iran get the bomb!

Iran Welcomes Back IAEA to Dispel Nuclear Weapons Allegations

The Iranian Government once again welcomed the IAEA into the country to discuss their nuclear energy program, and to dispel unfounded allegations from the West and Israel that they are pursing a nuclear weapon.

This second supplemental discussion was agreed during a meeting earlier in the month, which was described as “a good trip” by IAEA deputy director general Herman Nackaerts [1].

“The IAEA would not be scheduling another trip unless they had an expectation of progress,” says Mark Fitzpatrick, director of the International Institute for Strategic Studies.

All previous IAEA reports have confirmed that Iran is not producing uranium at anywhere near the level needed for a nuclear weapon.

Mainstream media spreading Iranophobia?

When you turn on the TV, it is hard to avoid the major news networks talking about Iran. Although Iran is being accused of bombing Israeli embassies and developing a weapons-grade nuclear program, Iran has been cooperating with many international agencies. The threat to cut oil exports to the UK was seen by the West as a provocation for war. So does the media play a role in convincing Americans to go to war? Christopher Chambers, a journalism professor at Georgetown University, joins to see if the mainstream media is endorsing war with Iran.

FBI organizes almost all terror plots in the US

The Federal Bureau of Investigation employs upwards of 15,000 undercover agents today, ten times what they had on the roster back in 1975.

If you think that’s a few spies too many — spies earning as much as $100,000 per assignment — one doesn’t have to go too deep into their track record to see their accomplishments. Those agents are responsible for an overwhelming amount of terrorist stings that have stopped major domestic catastrophes in the vein of 9/11 from happening on American soil.

Another thing those agents are responsible for, however, is plotting those very schemes.

Al-Qaeda Is America’s MEK In Syria And Everywhere Else

Al-Qaeda: The best enemy, and friend, that the petrodollar can buy.

What the Mossad and terrorist group MEK are doing together inside Iran is the same thing that the CIA and terrorist group Al-Qaeda are doing together inside Syria: blowing stuff up and causing problems.

Al-Qaeda was allowed to penetrate Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and Syria by the CIA-MI6-Mossad axis of evil to create the necessary chaos that would make regime change the only desirable outcome in these countries. It worked in Afghanistan and Libya, and it will probably work in Syria, too. Let’s face it: Syria is every conqueror’s dream. It is a weak and disunited society with bad leadership. And this is true for the entire Middle East with the exception of Iran.

The Pentagon has said more than likely the attack will come from abroad and US officials claim online hackers are terrorists, but groups like Anonymous are seen as freedom fighters by many. Politics

New Government Initiative Would Circumvent Second Amendment By Targeting Ammunition Not Guns

Supporters of the new legislation argue that proceeds from this small tax will be used to help the greater community. In this case, we would argue that the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

The risks of an abusive government having the ability to essentially set the price of a product through taxation is a scary proposition. Anytime government has ever identified a new good or service to tax, if it is allowed to do so, it unabashedly continues to raise those taxes in perpetuity. Gasoline, alcohol and cigarettes are key examples of this. In New York, for example, you pay more in taxes for a pack of cigarettes than the actual cigarettes. This same model will be introduced to ammunition if the sycophants in our local, state and federal government aren’t stopped.

Know Your Government: The Wartime Information Security Program

Few today have even heard of W.I.S.P., the Wartime Information Security Program. Initially, the idea came from Byron Price, a former Associated Press executive who oversaw a staff of more than two dozen during WW2; a staff that censored mail, cables and communications.

At wars end, Price contacted President Harry S. Truman via confidential memorandum and advised him that he should create a ‘Censorship Planning Commission’ that would be financed from the President’s secret funds.

During the Eisenhower administration (1958) the censorship code was developed and was last revised in 1963 during the Kennedy administration. David Wise explains the terms of the code in his book titled ‘The Politics of Lying: Government Deception, Secrecy and Power’:

Ron Paul Veteran’s Rally Blackout: Mainstream Media Still Suffering From Selective Amnesia

A February 20th veterans rally in Washington D.C. for Presidential candidate Ron Paul, initiated and hosted by activist and veteran Adam Kokesh, was completely ignored by the mainstream corporate controlled media yesterday in what can only be described as a total black-out.

This is not really news in light of the fact that this type of treatment of Ron Paul has been ongoing;

his debate time has been limited and the questions either ‘stacked’ in favor of the other GOP contenders or irrelevant altogether to Ron Paul’s central issues (end illegal wars, end the Federal Reserve, abolish the IRS, restore the Constitution)
his access to TV has been limited and when he is a guest of a show it appears more akin to a guerrilla ambush than an interview

Is Stephen Harper displaying fascist-like tendencies?

The stepped-up authoritarian, anti-democratic manner Stephen Harper conducts himself since obtaining his Parliamentary majority nine months ago raises serious concerns about how far right he is planning to push the country in his effort to forever change the face of Canada.

Harper hates many things about Canada—most of all the moderate liberalism that a majority of people have preferred over the years. He has adopted a ‘take-no-prisoners’ attitude, rushing ahead with destructive plans never before discussed in public, as well as doubling cuts to government compared to what he said before the election.

Elected with the support of only 25 per cent of eligible voters, Harper nevertheless is running roughshod over the wishes and interests of the majority 75 per cent of Canadians.

Congress set to hand our highways and freeways over to foreign corporations: New toll roads planned for all 50 states!

The efforts to parcel off and sell out entire sectors of America’s infrastructure to foreign interest continues daily. HR 7, the bill at issue here would put tolls on roads American taxpayers funded and paid for and which they continue to fund through gasoline taxes diverted to the Transportation and Highway Trust account at the IMF. Of course, that trust fund, just like Social Security has been raided continually by the federal government since its inception leaving a negative balance for that particular identified revenue stream. The money the federal government invested in the original construction of these highways and freeways was garnered from individual taxes and was not taken from some non-existent private account owned by the Fed. The Fed has no money of its own.

Let’s say you hire a carpenter to build you a house. You pay for all the materials and for the carpenter’s labor. You move into the house and live there happily for many years.

Then one day the Carpenter shows up at your doorstep and says he got into financial trouble, made some bad guesses on Wall Street, has to give large amounts of money to another carpenter (but won’t explain why), and the only way he can save himself is that by selling the house YOU paid to build. But, not to worry; you can go on living in that house you paid to build, it’s just that from now on you will have to pay rent to the new owners!

Do you go along with that arrangement the carpenter has made?

Or do you shoot him dead on the spot for selling something YOU paid for?

Voter fraud fears are exposed in run-up to election

The Evening Standard today exposes fears of voter fraud in London just 10 weeks before the mayoral election which is set to be the tightest ever.

Dozens of flats in a key borough are holding up to eight people per bedroom, according to the electoral register.

Tenants in Tower Hamlets said it was “impossible” for so many residents to share one property and some admitted they had never heard of their apparent flatmates. In one case, 12 adults are still listed as voters at a three-bedroom flat in Mile End despite having moved out about four months before officials gathered data for the register.

Adelson tells Forbes: I might give Gingrich $100 million

No price is too great to keep Israel in control of the nation, right? Adelson is already under investigation for bribing the Chinese government and now he wants to do the same here. And ultimately, that $100 million is to keep Ron Paul from the nomination because Ron Paul won’t bow to Tev Aviv.

The only way to get the big money corruption out of politics is for the little money to unite together in the struggle for freedom.Donate to Ron Paul HERE!

What’s also interesting is that the memo is still using very rosy assumptions about Greek economic growth.

Regulations Harm Small Business and Protects Corporations

The prospects for conducting commerce are never an easy task. The hurdles to start a business much less stay competitive demands the greatest skill and fortitude.

Innovation and inspiration often is the best course for those bold enough to become an employer. The idea that a level playing field exists for all comers is preposterous.

The entire macrocosm for business rests upon separating your enterprise from that of your rivalries. Such is a basic lesson for those brave or foolish enough to enter the arena.

What Happened to the $2.6 Trillion Social Security Trust Fund?

Social Security status-quo defenders have assured us for the past 25 years that Social Security is fully funded—for the next 25 years, or 2036. So if there are real assets in the Social Security Trust Fund—$2.6 trillion allegedly—then how could failure to reach a debt-ceiling agreement possibly threaten seniors’ Social Security checks?

The answer is that the federal government has borrowed all of that trust fund money and spent it, exactly as Krauthammer asserted. And the only way the trust fund can get some cash to pay Social Security benefits is if the federal government draws it from general revenues or borrows the money—which, of course, it can’t do because of the debt ceiling.

Fed Writes Sweeping Rules From Behind Closed Doors

The Federal Reserve has operated almost entirely behind closed doors as it rewrites the rule book governing the U.S. financial system, a stark contrast with its push for transparency in its interest-rate policies and emergency-lending programs.

Since the Dodd-Frank financial overhaul became law in July 2010, the Fed has held 47 separate votes on financial regulations, and scores more are coming. In the process it is reshaping the U.S. financial industry

Fearless Prediction: On March 20, Greece Will Default

Last Monday, a deal seemed to have emerged: That’s what the announcement sounded like. In fact, it looked so much like a done deal—it was spun so decisively as a done deal—that I was all set to write something snarky like, Greece Takes It Greek Style: “Thank You Troika, May I Have Another” Bailout On Its Way. (What can I say: I’m a vulgar bastard.)

But then . . . then we all started looking at the fine print of the deal. And that’s when everyone who follows this stuff started to realize that the deal wasn’t a deal—merely the illusion of a deal.

Which explains the non-reaction by the stock market; investors were not fooled.

The uptick’s downside

Central banks in both advanced and emerging economies have provided massive injections of liquidity. Volatility is down, confidence is up and risk aversion is much lower – for now.

But at least four downside risks are likely to materialise this year, undermining global growth and eventually negatively affecting investor confidence and market valuations of risky assets.

First, the eurozone is in deep recession, especially in the periphery, but now also in the core economies, as the latest data show an output contraction in Germany and France. The credit crunch in the banking system is becoming more severe as banks deleverage by selling assets and rationing credit, exacerbating the downturn.
