New figures seen by The Daily Telegraph show that 32million Criminal Records Bureau checks have been carried out in the decade since the system was established, at a cost of £1.5billion.
“CRB checks spread an atmosphere of mistrust, and people start to think that helping children is a state-licensed activity, rather than something we all do as a matter of course.
“For the first time, there are cases of adults walking past injured children, fearing that their act of help could be misinterpreted.
Big shock, right?
When Pitt was in Budapest last October shooting World War Z, an upcoming zombie-thriller, TEK agents seized 100 machine guns, automatic pistols and sniper rifles that had been flown to Hungary for use as props in the movie. The weapons were disabled and came with no ammunition. But the Hungarian counter-terrorism police determined that they constituted a serious threat.
As a result, Brad Pitt will be running around the sets, pointing his finger at the zombies, shouting “Bang, bang, you’re dead!”
Airborne troops from Russia and the Untied States would hold joint anti-terror drills in the U.S. state of Colorado between May 24 and 31, spokesman of the Russian Defense Ministry Col. Alexander Kucherenko said on Thursday.
According to the spokesman, it will be the first time that the Russian airborne forces have held exercises with the U.S. airborne forces on the U.S. territory.
“According to the exercise scenario, soldiers of the two countries will hold a tactical airborne operation, including the reconnaissance of imaginary terrorists’ camp and a raid,” Kucherenko said.
I am glad to see Russian/US military cooperation on this, because it proves that when there is a will, there is a way to engage, and cooperate between the two countries’ military.
However, I would be far happier to see a drill focused on the delivering of humanitarian aid (food and medicine) rather than against terrorists.
