The Greek economic crisis is often presented as a product of too much democracy, of politicians bowing to the demands of citizens for jobs, pensions and low taxes. The troika of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), European Central Bank (ECB) and European Union have stepped forward to undo this damage by attempting to break the ties between the residents of Greece and those who govern them. The troika has imposed strict policy guidelines, formulated by economists and other specialists, and closely monitors the implementation of these policies by the Greek government. Most recently, they have demanded written guarantees from all political parties in Greece that the austerity programs will be continued regardless of any future elections.
A recently published book written by a Skvere hasidic rabbi and endorsed by the Skvere Rebbe himself tells Skvere hasidim and other Jews to hate all gentiles. Gentiles are wholly evil, the book says. They spiritually pollute the world, and even looking at their faces is harmful.
Arizonans used to getting travel warnings about Rocky Point and Guaymas may soon be hearing advisories about Green Valley and Bisbee.
On a voice vote Friday, the state House approved legislation to have the head of the state Department of Homeland Security monitor intelligence from various sources to determine if they indicate “any type of warning about dangerous conditions in regard to illegal immigration activities.”
It allows the director to put out that information “in a manner that will immediately warn the public of the danger.” That can include not only telling the local media but everything from Facebook and Twitter to direct emails to those who have asked to be notified.
From a Federal Government standpoint, it appears that Arizonans are completely on their own, when it comes to drug and gang violence sneaking across the border from Mexico.
I could well imagine that many Arizonans, particularly with skills and children, may be thinking about leaving the state entirely, due to the drug and gang violence there.
Is this the end of cell phone rage? Pocket size jammers that block signal of inconsiderate callers set to be the next big thing
The jammer was holding a device hat looks like a walkie talkie with four antennae in his hand.
The commuter explained: ‘Anytime someone would try their cell again, this guy would subtly turn in their direction, press a button and point it at them, then continue reading his book under his creepy hood’
Justifiable homicide, IMHO!
Amy Strand, was traveling with her nine-month-old daughter Eva, on Wednesday when a TSA agent at Hawaii airport insisted she show him the full bottles of milk before she could board her plane home to Maui.
Oh yeah; that’ll help boost tourism!
Several people have been injured as Bahrain regime forces attack protesters in Sehla.
Google now holds so much data that industry watchers assume it is a target for state espionage; assume indeed that every self-respecting intelligence agency in the world is trying “to get an engineer into the Google server room”.
West Midlands and Surrey police offer £1.5bn contract under which private firms may investigate crime and detain suspects.
Private companies could take responsibility for investigating crimes, patrolling neighbourhoods and even detaining suspects under a radical privatisation plan being put forward by two of the largest police forces in the country.
In the end, should things proceed as they are currently, the United States will default and eventually implement a 10:1 exchange ratio (if not greater). This leaves the holders of the paper currency at the mercy of those holding the “new” world currency. It also instantly creates hyperinflation for those not blessed with the savings rate or storage of precious metals.
Their stories flow like water.
One lost a son and brother, killed by a missile that tore from the sky as they sat talking with others; one man’s father was among those who died when a missile hit a tribal gathering. Another man, a wage labourer, was in the local bazaar when he heard his father was also among the dozens killed in the same incident.
These individuals and their stories represent the collateral damage of America’s drone missile programme in Pakistan, a covert CIA operation that has been conducted largely out of sight and beyond scrutiny.
If you want to get paid for doing something stupid, just turn to the U.S. government. The U.S. government is paying researchers to play video games, it is paying researchers to study the effects of cocaine on Japanese quail and it has spent millions of dollars to train Chinese prostitutes to drink responsibly. The amount of money that the government wastes is absolutely horrifying. Do you remember all of that political wrangling over the debt ceiling deal last year? Do you remember how our politicians told us that there were cutting spending as much as they possibly could? Well, it was all a giant lie.
China urged the Syrian government and rebels trying to oust President Bashar al-Assad to end all acts of violence, especially against civilians.
But it added: “We oppose anyone interfering in Syria’s internal affairs under the pretext of ‘humanitarian’ issues.”
The international community should respect the independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Syria and the right of the Syrian people to independently choose their political system, the statement said.
It said China did not approve of armed interference or pushing for “regime change” in Syria, and the use or threat of sanctions did not help resolve the issue.

The following quotes from “1984? should send shivers down anyone’s spine. Orwell’s work is mentioned frequently in the context of today’s society, and rightfully so. But do people realize just how incredibly exact these predictions are that are happening before our eyes?
Unfortunately it’s all, as in all, coming to pass, and then some. These few quotes from George Orwell’s predictive work will be an eye-opener to those who only have a cursory knowledge of the book and simply remember the Big Brother image and the control issue and accompanying paranoia.
In the last few years, more than four dozen NASA computers have been misplaced. This was revealed in congressional testimony by NASA’s inspector general. Among the items that have disappeared were the security codes to the International Space Station.
*Own up…who’s got the ISS codes??
When Occupy Wall Street first began, it was a force to be reckoned with. Facing the daunting task of challenging the system and coordinating action, the movement also had to contend with the pathetic corporate-controlled media which did its very best to turn a blind eye to what was happening on Wall Street…
Moody’s Investors Service has downgraded the credit rating of Greece to C from Ca and said the country’s debt exchange plan may “constitute a default.”
In the extraordinary Don Juan in Hell scene in Act III of George Bernard Shaw’s “Man and Superman”, following what may be his best-known oration, Juan exclaims, As you say, they are mere words, useful for duping barbarians into adopting civilization, or the civilized poor into submitting to be robbed and enslaved. That is the family secret of the governing caste; and if we who are of that caste aimed at more Life for the world instead of at more power and luxury for our miserable selves, that secret would make us great. This is as true today as it was in Victorian England. It was for that reason, among more selfish ones, that the founders of our nation eschewed creating a blood-line ruling aristocracy.
The Copyright Act of 1976 is a fairly obscure law to most people, but it’s about to become very, very important to everyone involved.
See, the Act has this provision for recordings where, for songs released after 1978, after 35 years, the artist can choose whether or not to terminate the copyright, which would essentially return all rights to the song to the artist.
Needless to say, this has a lot of musicians fairly eager to collect on the billions in royalties some of them have spent decades getting screwed out of. Labels, meanwhile, would like to keep screwing the artists, because, well, imagine for a minute what would happen if they started losing the rights to albums like “Thriller.”
