Ron Paul Wins Iowa GOP Debate; Is Right On Iran

The verdict is in – Ron Paul won last night’s GOP Presidential debate in Ames, Iowa. Ron Paul comes in from the fringe

Laura Burkett, a conservative Republican from Coralville, Iowa, didn’t give Ron Paul a second thought in the 2008 presidential contest, turned off by his calls for an end to military action around the globe and unswayed by his warnings that the nation was teetering on economic implosion.

“I really thought he was a nut,” Burkett said. “Everything he said, I thought, ‘This is ridiculous.'”

Four years later, reeling from the nation’s fiscal decline and what she says is an unprecedented federal expansion into Americans’ lives, Burkett is an ardent supporter who plans to do anything she can to make the Texas congressman the GOP nominee.

Washington Post: Ron Paul could be a surprise victor in Ames straw poll

Republican presidential candidate Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, greets supporters at a campaign event at a hotel in Des Moines, Iowa, Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2011. (AP Photo/Charles Dharapak)DES MOINES, Iowa — Texas Rep. Ron Paul has long been regarded as a somewhat entertaining distraction in his two presidential races over the past four years.

But, on the eve of the Ames Straw Poll, the first major organizing test of the 2012 Republican presidential race, there is a strain of thinking that Paul could seriously challenge the likes of Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann and former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty for supremacy on Saturday.

WaPo has already pulled the original story they had on their website.

Which means the fix is already in!

BART Kills Cell Phone Service To Disrupt Protests

Welcome to the brave new world:

BART officials acknowledged this afternoon that they shut down cell phone and wireless data service in its downtown San Francisco stations to disrupt a planned protest.

Their announcement sparked denunciations from civil libertarians and the apparent threat of a cyber-attack on the BART website.A statement posted on the transit agency’s website said the communications blackout was ordered in the interest of public safety:

“Organizers planning to disrupt BART service on August 11, 2011 stated they would use mobile devices to coordinate their disruptive activities and communicate about the location and number of BART Police,” the statement reads.

Standard & Poor’s faces investigation over ‘possible insider trading’ over downgrade of U.S. debt

Rumours of a post-bell downgrade were rampant on Wall Street early on Friday and some commentators suggested it sounded like a leak, which could have come from either S&P or the Treasury.

And, though misdeeds may be difficult to prove, S&P could have its license revoked if it leaked word of the downgrade, according to the 2006 Credit Rating Agency Reform Act.

£70m of British aid ‘paid to the Taliban': Cash wasted on bribes and protection money, say campaigners

Millions of pounds of taxpayers’ money could be ending up in the pockets of Taliban insurgents and corrupt Afghan officials, a damning report has revealed.

The International Crisis Group warned that up to 10 per cent of overseas aid was being paid in bribes and protection money to the Taliban and officials in Kabul.

Over the next four years, the Prime Minister has pledged to give £710million to Afghanistan alone. That could mean up to £70million of British money going to the very people we are fighting.

Shell confirms oil leak in North Sea

al Dutch Shell has said it is working to contain an oil leak at its Gannet Alpha platform in the North Sea, but declined to specify the size of the leak.

“We can confirm we are managing an oil leak in a flow line that serves the Gannet Alpha platform. We deployed a remote-operated vehicle to check for a subsea leak after a light sheen was noticed in the area,” a Shell spokesman said.

“We have stemmed the leak significantly and we are taking further measures to isolate it. The subsea well has been shut in, and the flow line is being depressurised.”

Asked about the size of the leak, a Shell spokeswoman declined to say.

The World’s Money Is Draining Away … Where’s It Going?

As I’ve previously noted, the giant banks are drawing the American and world economy down into a black hole. If we don’t break up the giant banks now, they’ll be bailed out again and again, and virtually all independent economists and financial experts say that will drag the world economy down with them.

Indeed, many economists and financial experts say that we’ll have a never-ending depression or perpetual zombification unless the banks and bondholders are forced to write down their bad debt.

But the question remains: if all of the world’s money (of the Western world, anyway) is draining out, where’s it going to?

Look Who Is In The Super Congress

Harry Reid appointed two Jews and one white man to the Super Congress. Max Baucus is the gentile Reid appointee who wrote the Obamacare legislation. Or rather his aide who was a former Lobbyist wrote the legislation to benefit the insurance industry. The Jewish woman, Senator Patty Murray, is the head of the Senate Democrat Campaign Committee. She is in the Super Congress to collect loot from the Lobbyists. Murray’s job is to exempt the big business donors from tax increases and bankrupt small businesses who can’t afford to pay the bribes. So what if the small businesses lay off millions of workers. Just a few more to load on the trucks for Camp FEMA.

“Services are not just being taken away from young people, they are being taken from poor young people,” he said.

Censorship and safety: Health Canada and the nuclear information blackout

Immediately after the Fukushima catastrophe, the Canadian government went into damage-control. Information on the unfolding nuclear catastrophe in Japan had clearly ignited the fears of many Canadians, as reports surfaced that Vancouver residents were flocking to drug stores to purchase potassium iodide in an effort to protect themselves from the effects of radiation. In an effort to assuage public opinion, Health Canada’s Dr. Paul Gully hastily stated on CBC news “that the risk to Canadians in Canada is negligible and will remain negligible, even in the worst-case scenario”.

Yet, despite such definitive claims by government officials, Alex Roslin, a writer for Vancouver’s Georgia Straight, investigated Health Canada’s data and found that radiation from Fukushima had traveled through the atmosphere to Canada’s west coast, exposing Canadians to harmful levels of contamination. “For 22 days,” writes Roslin, “a Health Canada monitoring station in Sidney (B.C.) detected iodine-131 levels in the air that were 61 per cent above the government’s allowable limit.”

Harper in Honduras: Such a good old boy. He’s good at taking direction.

Turns out Zelaya was worried about the poverty rate and wanted to Chavez Honduras, to use the profits from natural resources to benefit the general population rather than only a select few. It’s the same old rotten story – a wealthy elite catering to foreign exploitation while the majority of the population barely ekes out a living. The mineral rights are foreign-owned, Canada being heavy into mining there, and offshore corporations paying slave wages to manufacture clothing there for sale at inflated prices in the US and elsewhere.

Honduras is just another lovely little sweatshop, and Harper is there to support Canadian business, not “democracy”, as the Sun article obliquely suggests:

Aggression during G20 rally ‘perpetrated by police,’ judge rules

A Toronto judge has ruled that “adrenalized” police officers acted as aggressors at a peaceful political rally that led to dozens of arrests during last year’s G20 summit.

“The only organized or collective physical aggression at that location that evening was perpetrated by police each time they advanced on demonstrators,” Justice Melvyn Green ruled on Thursday. He was referring to a demonstration at Queen St. and Spadina Ave. on Saturday, June 26, 2010.

Green stated police criminalized political demonstration, which is “vital” to maintain a “viable democracy.”

Shorter’s Last Stand

Just remember, the greatest enabler of social injustice in the world is the paper money which politicians poison. They poison money’s true intent. Money is intended to be earned, not dropped from helicopters by beaurocrats. Politicians cannot poison gold – this is why they hate it, and seek to control it – to hide the true nature of their money.

This is why the working class SHOULD LOVE IT. Because when you convert earnings into gold, the politicians can no longer steal from the product of your labor. And the more paper dollars which you convert into inflation proof GOLD, the more YOU tax the poison paper system, instead of the poison paper system taxing YOU. Simple as that.

Japan Held Nuclear Data, Leaving Evacuees in Peril

FUKUSHIMA, Japan — The day after a giant tsunami set off the continuing disaster at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, thousands of residents at the nearby town of Namie gathered to evacuate.

Given no guidance from Tokyo, town officials led the residents north, believing that winter winds would be blowing south and carrying away any radioactive emissions. For three nights, while hydrogen explosions at four of the reactors spewed radiation into the air, they stayed in a district called Tsushima where the children played outside and some parents used water from a mountain stream to prepare rice.

Blueprint For NATO Attack On Syria Revealed

Nato member countries would begin by using satellite technology to spot Syrian air defences. A few days later, warplanes, in larger numbers than Libya, would take off from the UK base in Cyprus and spend some 48 hours destroying Syrian surface-to-air missiles (SAMs) and jets. Alliance aircraft would then start an open-ended bombardment of Syrian tanks and ground troops.

The scenario is based on analysts in the French military, from the specialist British publication Jane’s Defence Weekly and from Israel’s Channel 10 TV station.

The Syrian air force is said to pose little threat. It has around 60 Russian-made MiG-29s. But the rest – some 160 MiG-21s, 80 MiG-23s, 60 MiG-23BNs, 50 Su-22s and 20 Su-24MKs – is out of date

Soon to Be Added to List of Pentagon’s Unaffordable Luxuries: People in Uniform

The fire alarms are screaming but nobody is listening. That is one way to describe a Pentagon fiscal predicament that, for a change, has nothing to do with the soaring price tags of weapon systems.

The all-volunteer military force has become so expensive that, compared to a decade ago, the Pentagon is paying twice as much for the same number of people. The trends are scary, and getting worse, warns Arnold L. Punaro, a retired Marine Corps major general who serves on a Pentagon advisory panel. Runaway personnel and retiree benefits costs, he says, are pushing the Defense Department toward a financial precipice.

Muslims tackle looters and bigots

There is a lively debate taking place in the UK media between left and right wing commentators as to the causes of the English riots, in which hundreds of shops and businesses have been looted. However, both sides agree that the looting has been inexcusable. I hope both sides will also agree with me that Muslims have played an important role in helping to tackle the looting and preserve public safety. This would be an especially important acknowledgment if it came from those Islamophobic commentators who consistently denigrate Muslims.

The Activities at Mena – MENA is no myth!

“If the people were to ever find out what we have done, we would be chased down the streets and lynched.”

— George Bush, cited in the June, 1992 Sarah McClendon Newsletter

George Bush with legendary CIA agent Felix Rodriguez a.k.a. “Mr. Gomez” who ran the Mexican portion of the Iran-Contra guns and drug running operation.

With the admission that the CIA was involved in Operation FAST AND FURIOUS, and that cocaine is being “allowed” into the US, it is clear that we are in the middle of another “Iran Contra” style operation of government-sanctioned gun running funded by government-sanctioned drug running, and if the history of the previous scandal is any guide, then millions of dollars from the CIA drug running will be used to influence next year’s election.

And to all of you reading this post who are part of that drug money pipeline, I urge caution, Remember that all four of Clinton’s top fundraisers were dead within 6 months of his election to the White House!

The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie

The bourgeois man depends upon the existence of a mythical mainstream to justify his way of life. He needs this mainstream because his social instincts are skewed in the same way his conception of democracy is: he thinks that whatever the majority is, wants, does, must be right. Nothing could be more terrifying to him than this new development, which he is beginning to sense today: that there no longer is a majority, if there ever was.

An Open Letter to David Cameron’s Parents

Dear Mr & Mrs Cameron,

Why did you never take the time to teach your child basic morality?

As a young man, he was in a gang that regularly smashed up private property. We know that you were absent parents who left your child to be brought up by a school rather than taking responsibility for his behaviour yourselves. The fact that he became a delinquent with no sense of respect for the property of others can only reflect that fact that you are terrible, lazy human beings who failed even in teaching your children the difference between right and wrong. I can only assume that his contempt for the small business owners of Oxford is indicative of his wider values.

Even worse, your neglect led him to fall in with a bad crowd.

Fire victims told by banks: You must still pay your mortgage

Britain’s banking giants were slammed yesterday for refusing to help the innocent victims of the riots.

For many, the iconic image of the violence was the burning Carpetright building in Tottenham, North London, and the flats above the shop.

But it emerged yesterday that residents whose homes were gutted in the blaze are still being forced to pay their mortgage.

Centuries of Lying in the Name of Christianity

Readers of that book would learn, for example, that the oldest known portion of a New Testament is a few verses from John that were written during the first half of the second century — or approximately a full century after the crucifixion of Jesus.

Readers also would learn that the two oldest surviving complete New Testaments are the codex Sinaiticus and codex Vaticanus. Sinaiticus is a fourth-century Greek Bible discovered in the middle of the nineteenth century that not only contains the complete New Testament, but also The Shepard of Hermas and the Epistle of Barnabas, books that were considered to be part of the New Testament for several centuries. Vaticanus also is a fourth-century Greek Bible that has been housed in the Vatican Library at least since 1475.

Chinese Let Currency Rise Against the Dollar

China’s currency staged a small but unexpected rally this week, as the country’s central bank allowed it to rise 0.72 percent against the dollar, with most of the move coming Wednesday and Thursday.

The State Administration of Foreign Exchange, which is part of the central bank, fixed the initial trading value Thursday morning below 6.4 renminbi to the dollar for the first time in the modern history of the currency.

Those Chinese manufactured products you have become dependent on because the US Government and Wall Street thought US manufacturing just too icky to have to deal with, just got a bit more expensive to buy.

Jobless Claims Decline to 4-Month Low

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits fell 7,000 to a seasonally adjusted 395,000, the Labor Department said, the lowest level since early April. Economists had expected a reading of 400,000.

It’s that ‘seasonally adjusted’ part that tells you this is just more propaganda. There is no need to adjust anything. Just count the number people people not working and that is the reality. ‘Seasonally adjusted’ is a confession that the numbers are being played with to achieve a political end. Right now, only 58% of working-age Americans have jobs. THAT is the reality. The US Government is rigging the unemployment numbers to cover their rigging of the stock market in the hopes that pretty charts and graphs on TV will convince you to ignore the poverty and homelessness you see before your very eyes every single day.

The results of the two-week online poll (located at: were announced one day before Saturday’s Ames Straw Poll, which is considered by most as the first real test of a presidential candidate’s organizational strength in Iowa.

Report: U.S. threatens to halt humanitarian aid to Gaza

The United States threatened Thursday to halt humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, after Hamas demanded to audit the books of U.S.-financed NGOs in Gaza, the New York Times reported.

According to the report, the U.S. State Department said it would stop delivering to Gaza some $100 million in aid for health care, agriculture, and water infrastructure if Hamas does not stop insisting on auditing the books of U.S. charities in the Gaza Strip.

Got something to hide?

Police and Terrorism: One and the Same

I will state my desire up front: I don’t want the police to be reformed, watched, video-recorded, monitored, disarmed, watch-dogged, controlled, quality checked, investigated, punished, prosecuted or anything else. I simply want them gone. I want their current employment to cease and desist. From the FLEAs (Federal Law Enforcement Agents) all the way to the local constabulary, all must be permanently furloughed and asked to find more productive work like mowing lawns, bagging groceries or playing video-games.

AIPAC’s Iran Strategy On Sanctions Mirrors Run-Up To Iraq War Tactics

The decision of more than 90 U.S. senators to press President Obama for Iraq-style sanctions on Iran flew in the face of what some observers warned could be the beginning of a stress test of the international support for pressuring Iran and another step closer to a potential war with the Islamic Republic.

But a Tuesday press release [PDF] from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) brings to mind eery parallels between the escalation of sanctions against Iran and the slow lead up to the invasion of Iraq in 2003.

London Burning

The riots around London have become my adopted news story of the year. I’ve become emotionally attached, and am suffering withdrawal symptoms when I can’t listen to reports on BBC. My heart goes out to the decent people that are caught in the middle of this senseless destruction…

Sweating over scan – new airport body scanner doesn’t like perspiration

Transport Minister Anthony Albanese pitched the scanners as the “most advanced passenger screening technology available in the world”.

Except that these machines, obviously not tested at all before being sold to the airports, will flash a false alarm if your armpits are sweaty, and despite the more polite non-naked aspect, still use terahertz radiation and still cause skin cancers. This is just another way to enrich the security-industrial complex at the expense of the rest of us.

AIPAC’s European cousin evades scrutiny

But I was struck by how the jaunt, organized by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), has received some attention from the mainstream press on both sides of the Atlantic. London’s right-wing Daily Mail reported that AIPAC’s critics believe it operates on behalf of the Israeli government and has “secured too much influence on Congress”.

Why Illinois Can’t Afford its Poor Dead

The state of Illinois has reached a new level of broke. Come Monday, it won’t have enough cash to bury its indigent dead.

I think I saw a solution in a movie once!

NYC Dept. of Buildings: No Records for Pre-9/11 WTC Elevator Rebuild, One of the “Largest, Most Sophisticated” Ever

The New York City Department of Buildings (DoB) has reported within a June 6, 2011 Freedom of Information (FOI) response, that no records could be located regarding the following request for information pertaining to the massive elevator modernization project underway at World Trade Center buildings 1 and 2 until the very morning of September 11, 2001, one of the largest ever [1]. The DoB governs elevator construction and use within New York City.

An April 15, 2011 FOI appeal request sought:
“Permits or certifications provided by the NYC Department of Buildings regarding elevator modernization/renovation work performed at the former World Trade Center buildings 1 and 2 during the 1990s and 2000s.”

The DoB’s June 6, 2011 FOI answer reads as follows:

Actually, there is a record. This PDF is of the contract to “modernize” the elevators, but that contract is dated 1994, with the work carried out in the mid-1990s. So why was more “elevator modernization” required in August and September 2001, work for which no paperwork exists at all?

America: A Parasite On The World

If Russian prime minister Putin’s recent description of America as “a parasite on the world” were reported by the US media, little doubt that most Americans would be infuriated. We are the virtuous people. Without us good guys to police the world there would be mayhem and wars everywhere, not merely the ones we started in the Middle East, Asia, and North Africa.

Stock market volatility is the new norm

Madison Ruppert, Contributing Writer
Activist Post

The rollercoaster of the stock market is just getting more stomach-churning as the days go by, and it looks like there is no end in sight.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped to record lows in a single day, while in the next 24 hours it gained nearly 430 points just to see it fall another 520 the next day.

While most people who look at these statistics see nothing other than a looming economic crisis, the likes of which may be unprecedented in the United States, the mainstream media continues to point to the minor gains as triumphs.

Why the rich ‘are such a selfish, less empathetic and less altruistic lot’

No empathy,no conscience=PSYCHOPATH!

Few people have much sympathy for the rich who have lost millions in the latest share price crash.

But then a new study has revealed the wealthy are unlikely to be to bothered about those who are struggling to make ends meet.

According to psychologist and social scientist Dacher Keltner the rich are usually self-obsessed and only worried about their own well being.

The moral decay of our society is as bad at the top as the bottom – Telegraph

David Cameron, Ed Miliband and the entire British political class came together yesterday to denounce the rioters…But there was also something very phony and hypocritical about all the shock and outrage expressed in parliament. MPs spoke about the week’s dreadful events as if they were nothing to do with them.

I cannot accept that this is the case. Indeed, I believe that the criminality in our streets cannot be dissociated from the moral disintegration in the highest ranks of modern British society. The last two decades have seen a terrifying decline in standards among the British governing elite. It has become acceptable for our politicians to lie and to cheat. An almost universal culture of selfishness and greed has grown up.

Big Brother isn’t watching you – Russell Brand & The Guardian

Dismissing rioters as mindless is futile rhetoric. However unacceptable the UK riots, we need to ask why they are happening
I remember Cameron saying “hug a hoodie” but I haven’t seen him doing it. Why would he? Hoodies don’t vote, they’ve realised it’s pointless, that whoever gets elected will just be a different shade of the “we don’t give a toss about you” party.

What QE3 Will Look Like

The recent financial fireworks in the US and in Europe have made it clear that QE3 is close at hand. The third installment described herein is much more than just another revving up of the printing presses, as it will involve a paradigm shift intent on restoring currencies and maintaining the current power structure…

I Stole 3.5 Trillion Dollars From You. I Dare You To Do Something.

This is how my friends and I stole 2.2 trillion dollars of your money in the 1990s and more since. The Treasury sells bonds to pay the deficit using the New York branch of the Federal Reserve and what are called Primary Dealers. What we did was really simple. We just sold 2.2 trillion dollars in Treasury bonds over and above what the deficit required in the 1990s. All you had to do to arrest everyone in Wall Street was to examine the books at Cantor Fitzgerald’s offices at One World Trade Center on the 101st to 105th floors. Too bad all the evidence went up in smoke on 9-11-2001.

How To Remove Radioactive Iodine-131 From Drinking Water

The Environmental Protection Agency recommends reverse osmosis water treatment to remove radioactive isotopes that emit beta-particle radiation. But iodine-131, a beta emitter, is typically present in water as a dissolved gas, and reverse osmosis is known to be ineffective at capturing gases.

A combination of technologies, however, may remove most or all of the iodine-131 that finds its way into tap water, all available in consumer products for home water treatment…

The Icebergs Cometh: Retaking the USA Titanic Before the 2012 Elections

We no longer control our own democratic system. Puppet candidates have rigged themselves into office and manipulated our government to hand corporations the keys to the kingdom. We the People are now the rabble outside the gates, reduced to begging the rulers within to please be just a little less ruthless…

“Our elections have been bought or stolen for decades, but the People are only now waking up…But whether elections – or politicians – are literally stolen, or simply bought (including Barack Obama), the outcome is the same.

“The democratic system itself is rigged against us – and this rigging is not just another Progressive issue, like ending the Wars on Terror and Drugs, or securing universal healthcare, or getting the 100,000 toxic chemicals out of our bodies, or preventing Monsanto from taking over our food and seed supply…

“We must first outlaw the use of riggable computerized voting machines and institute a public paper ballot count with appropriate procedure and oversight. We must demand full media access for candidates. And we must threaten a full-blown Egypt-style revolution if Citizen’s United is not immediately overturned.”

Obama Slipping: Black America Waking Up – To the Nightmare

Obama Slipping: Black America Waking Up – To the Nightmare
Wed, 08/10/2011 – 13:33 — Glen Ford
Having invested so much in the Obama persona – and endlessly reaffirmed that commitment in countless settings with fellow African Americans – it is inevitable that Black folks undergo the harshest “withdrawal” experience imaginable. The realization that the dream was a chimera is one thing, but to awaken to a catastrophe in which the Great Black Hope is revealed as the Great Black Betrayer, is another magnitude of pain. It will be an ugly – and uneven – spectacle.

Ron Paul Vs. Military Industrial Complex Establishment Shills

Tonight the Republican contenders for the GOP Presidential nomination debated in Iowa in what turned out to be a cheerleading event for the military industrial complex and an attempted attack on Ron Paul.

As the GOP establishment leaders shilled for a the military industrial complex and a war with Iran, Ron Paul was a breath of fresh air once again, taking shots at the idea of perpetual worldwide war, the assassination of American citizens, and a war with Iran.

In what is sure to dismay the establishment media and puppets, the crowd was in full support of Ron Paul and his message.

All truth passes through three stages.
First, it is ridiculed.
Second, it is violently opposed.
Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.
“Trust in journalists depends on accuracy,
fairness and a readiness to acknowledge
mistakes and apologize for them,journalists
should represent the governed, those without
power, those without information – and that
is no route to popularity with those who wield
power.” – Peter Cole, London Daily Mail.
When journalists report propaganda instead of the truth,
the consequences can be catastrophic
